Session 5: Assignment Evaluation

For Media Design and Event management, the assignment was to create a GIF Poster, a logo and 2 tickets. Below are the finished GIF Poster and logo for the movie 'The Greatest Showman' but I changed the title to make it my own. I used the tools that I learned throughout the module to create these on Photoshop.

Below is the logo. I wanted to maintain negative space throughout each task for the assignment to emphasize the musical and help to direct the audience's attention. I used the Paint Bucket tool to fill the background with purple. Then I used the magic wand tool to remove the background of the image and finally used the type tool to insert the text and used the desired font and text size.

Below is the GIF Poster. In this poster, I used the type tool to insert the location, the date and where to purchase tickets as this will help the audience to get more information on the musical. To create the GIF I went to window, created two frames and then I went to edit, transform and flip horizontally to change the direction of the silhouette image, therefore, creating a GIF.

Session 4: Poster Design and Layout

In this session I learned the importance of design principles, these include:

  1. (Negative) space
  2. Proximity
  3. Cohesion (repetition)
  4. Contrast
  5. Alignments
  6. Focal points
I will also be examining one poster design using some of the techniques that I have learned in the lecture such as the colour scheme, simplicity and the choice of Typography (combining text and image) to analyse the image. The poster I have chosen to discuss is called 'La Loie Fuller' by Jules Cheret. The story of the film was about a dancer who would wear shimmering and fine fabric and dance around the stage.

The use of black on the background indicates the main focus of the poster is the dancer as that is what the designer wants us to see.

The poster is very simple which shows me the designer wanted to keep it minimal which helps the audience to easily understand the poster and focus on the meaning of the image.

The choice of Typography enhances the poster as they have made the font really big and clear to grab the audiences attention but its easy to read therefore engaging the audience.

Session 3: Deconstructing stories and Photoshop Gifs

Today in media design we discussed how to deconstruct and condense ides and stories into simple GIFS. I learned how to use the different tools, frames and layers in Photoshop to design an animated word and image GIFS with various effects.
From the Photoshop skills I have learnt I will aim to create 7 eye-catching animated GIFS for the movie The Greatest Showman which is the movie I have chosen for my assignment.

Each GIF is an aspect from the movie The Greatest Showman. The GIF's I have chosen to talk about are the first, second and the last GIF.
The first GIF is a quote from the movie where Charity the wife of P.T Barnum's makes a wish for happiness like this forever even though her husband did not have a job but being surrounded by her family is all the happiness she wanted.

The second GIF portrays Anne (Zendaya) and Phillip (Zac Efron) looking at each other and the sentence 'rewrite the stars' which is a song they sing together in the movie.

The last GIF shows P.T Barnum played by Hugh Jackman being surrounded by the actors and how he produces a show stopping performance with the help of all his performers but the main focus throughout the film is him as it portrays him as someone who rose from nothing to becoming a world-renowned sensation of his times.
